County Sligo Golf Club is widely regarded as one of the great championship links courses. It is located in the picturesque seaside village of Rosses Point just 8km from Sligo and is known locally as \"The Point\". Originally founded in 1894 as a 9 Hole course it is now a modern 27 holes complex with spacious clubhouse and modern facilities. The club is the home of the famous West of Ireland Open amateur championship played every Easter since 1923. It has hosted many other prestigious events including the Home Internationals, the Irish Close and the Irish Professional Matchplay Championship. The original clubhouse was built on its current site in 1912 and was designed by George O\'Connor, an eminent Dublin based architect. The modern clubhouse of today still retains the beautiful Tudor style facade that exudes old world charm fronting on to the practice putting green. The updated clubhouse was officially opened on the 29th of April 2005.
